Prague – The John Lennon Wall – This one is for you Tom…

The John Lennon wall in Prague was started upon his death, when the young people of Prague decided to create a symbolic burial place for a man they admired.  John Lennon’s fight for equality, peace, and freedom led to the dedication of this one wall, which is steps away from the Charles Bridge.

My brother-in-law Tom is known for his rebellious years as a teenager and one summer he was grounded by his parents because they found a test tube of stems in his pants pocket.  Stems of what…..well I cannot say but his parents felt that this offense was serious enough to warrant a grounding that would last an entire summer.  During this time, he started painting a mural of the Beatles Yellow Submarine cover on one entire wall in his room.  The mural was so good that when they sold the house 20 years later, the new owners asked Tom if he would come back to Oklahoma to finish the mural.  The Yellow Submarine mural was started in 1974 and finished in 1994 and signed by Tom and we think….it is still there today.  Needless to say this wall and the pub we found brought up a lot of memories for Tom.
